But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us (Ephesians 2:13, 14)

A word of warning!  Many of these links are not to Christian organizations but rather to secular ones.  They are presented because there is a very limited amount of information available from reliable church sources.  Most people know very little about the county of Liberia and these links will assist you in gaining some understanding of the current situation and, to some degree, how it came to be in such difficult circumstances.  You should exercise prudence and a healthy dose of skepticism as many of these links contain the writers’ opinions which may or may not be based upon fact.  If you find a site with offensive material please bring it to our attention and the link will be removed.

Other Organizations Doing God’s Work in Liberia:

Liberia Baptist Theological Seminary – An interesting Christian site.  Oddly enough Lincoln Brownell, president of LBTS, and my pastor, Kevin Minchey, new each other while in Southern Seminary in Louisville.  I hope to develop a relationship with Dr. Brownell in the future.

The Rafiki Foundation, Inc. – A wonderful sounding Christian organization in Texas who just received a request to build a model Children’s Village in Liberia.  They have been working in Africa for about 20 years building Children’s Villages and are in several other African countries.

First Baptist Church of Jonesboro, Georgia – They are the U.S. accounting office for the Liberian Baptist Theological Seminary.  The church has had relationships with Liberia since the 1980’s.  They have a skilled advisory team in place and are very professional in everything they do.

Fellowship Christian Church of Evansville, Indiana – They have multiple mission efforts in West Africa.  Recently CFC shipped a portable sawmill to Liberia and have an upcoming trip in February.

Global Partners – EvangeCube - EvangeCube is a division of Global Partners, a unified ministry of church planting composed of three primary elements: evangelism-discipleship, church mobilization and leadership development. Their goal is to harness the EvangeCube® as a powerful tool to reach one billion unbelievers by 2010.

Liberian Information:

African Studies Center Liberia PageUniversity of Pennsylvania site with history, languages and maps and other information.

CIA World Factbook, Liberia – This is a tremendous source of statistical information.  You will find this website concise and loaded with interesting data.

Liberian Connection – A website with current news about Liberia.  There’s an online radio as well as current articles on the upcoming election.

GEsource World Guide - Liberia – A site devoted more to the entire world rather than to Liberia.  A good site however.

Global Connections . Liberia . History PBS – Public Broadcasting Station site.  This is one of the better sites and it has video segments as well as several quality links of its own.

globalEDGE (TM) country insights - Overview of Liberia – A good site due to its rich set of links to reports on current events and other sources of information.  As with many of these sites, it gets its statistical information from the CIA World Factbook.

Guardian Unlimited Special reports 01.06.03 Interactive. Liberia - a brief history – In addition to a short, interesting slide show on Liberia, this site has a rich set of news articles as well.

History Haunts War-Torn Liberia – This is a National Geographic site and the quality is good.  It has some related articles about Liberia in addition to its main story.

IRC – International Rescue Committee site.  Very professional with myriad related articles.

Liberia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia – Very interesting site that relies on readers to provide additional information.  Good information on the site and several related articles and links.

Liberia Maps - Library of Congress – The Library of Congress website.  The link takes you directly to the maps of Liberia area but you can navigate to other sections.

Liberia rewriting history – A July 2003 article by William Bowles that deals mostly with the relationship between Liberia’s troubles and America’s “meddling”.  It is quite critical of the U.S. role in the country and especially of Ronald Reagan’s administration.  However, I think it’s a good read as it brings some new information that you will not likely see elsewhere.

Liberia's Histroy – This is one of the few personal experience sites that you will find and it is quite interesting.  The writer (I never find his name) was with the Peace Corp during the mid- to late-seventy’s and served as a school teacher in Buchanan.  He has several pictures and also includes a history of Liberia that is pretty good.

Liberia-Relief MapsReliefWeb is a project of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of
Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).  This is their site which contains a huge number of maps as they relate to specific situations within Liberia.  There are also many other resources including articles on many different actions in the country.  The reading is somewhat dry but very informative.

Liberia – An Infoplease website much like an online encyclopedia.  While a lot of their information comes from the CIA World Factbook, they do have several other sources including magazine and newspaper articles.  Worth a look.

Liberian Civil War – One of the more in depth sites on the last 10 – 20 years.  Detailed coverage of the civil war.  Many related articles.  Some Reagan bashing but not too bad.

Liberian History – Information about the U.S. and Liberian relationship during World War Two.

Links to Sites about Liberia - The Liberian Collections Project will collect, preserve, and make available a comprehensive range of materials and information about Liberia for researchers, students, and teachers, with special emphasis on reaching Liberians in Liberia and in the diaspora.  This site has a huge number of links to Liberia related information.  I have not had time to look through them but the list is impressive and interesting.

The Channel of Liberian Contemporary History – A series of article about current Liberia history written, primarily, by a Liberian named Tarty Teh.

The Dominion Recent History of Liberia – Dominion calls itself “Canada’s Grassroots National Newspaper”.  It’s not particularly complementary to the U.S. but worth a read to keep the international flavor of what has happened balanced out.

The World of Maps – Africa – A German (I think) site with an English section providing maps and other information.

United States Monrovia Liberia Embassy – Website of the U.S. Embassy in Monrovia.

WHKMLA History of Liberia, ToC – An English section of a German (I think) website.  Not much new information but quite a few interesting looking links.

WWW-VL History Index  - The VL is the oldest catalogue of the Web, started by Tim Berners-Lee, the creator of html and the Web itself. Unlike commercial catalogs, it is run by a loose confederation of volunteers, who compile pages of key links for particular areas in which they are expert; even though it isn't the biggest index of the Web, the VL pages are widely recognized as being amongst the highest-quality guides to particular sections of the Web.
